  1. This is a check off list for proper installation and operation of Silver
  2. Xpress. Print this documentation and go through each item.

  4.  ┌──┐  Make sure the utilities such as PKZIP, ARJ, LHA are available
  5.  └──┘  in a directory defined in the PATH statement.
  6.  
  7.        To see if this is setup right, make a temporary directory called
  8.        JUNK off the Xpress directory. Switch to this directory and attempt
  9.        to run the PKZIP, PKUNZIP, ARJ, LHA or any other utility.  If DOS
  10.        says "Bad Commmand or File Name", the utilities are not on the PATH.

  12.  ┌──┐  Make sure the XPRESS.BAT (XPRESS for PCBoard) is correct for your
  13.  └──┘  setup. Make sure it is switching directories and/or drives
  14.        correctly.

  17.  ┌──┐  Make sure the BBS will call the XPRESS.BAT (XPRESS for PCBOARD)
  18.  └──┘  correctly.

  21.  ┌──┐  Do you want users to request file downloads with Silver Xpress?

  23.        Check the SETUP/MISC options. Set the file request amount to zero if
  24.        you want to turn this off. If you want to set it on a per user
  25.        basis, then edit the user flags.

  27.        The same is true with file uploads.

  29.  ┌──┐  If you are not part of fidonet, skip this. As a fido sysop, you may
  30.  └──┘  be offering netmail to your users. Check the Netmail information
  31.        section and make sure the netmail attributes are set to what you want.

  33.  ┌──┐  File Scanner, make sure you only allow the areas to be scanned are
  34.  └──┘  secured by you. In other words, look at the file areas pickup by
  35.        Xpress and make sure the high security areas are not scanned by
  36.        simulating a user login and usage of Xpress (Log in as a user).

  38.  ┌──┐  Check the XPPROT.CTL. This file will use the XMT file transfer
  39.  └──┘  program to transfer mail. XMT is a home grown program with XYZ modem
  40.        capabilities. It also works with the FOSSIL, if you want to use the
  41.        FOSSIL for XMT. Add the /F switch after the XMT command and before
  42.        any other switches.

  44.        If you do not want to use XMT at all, we provided XPPROT.DSZ.
  45.        Copy this file over to XPPROT.CTL and DSZ will be used for file
  46.        transfers.
